Book Week Dress-Ups

Last week during Book Week at school, we all were invited to dress as a character from a book.
Jack won first prize for the Year 6 classes with his totally cool Joker costume:

After I convinced my prac student, Gemma to dress up as Alice (because with her youthfulness and blonde hair she can do it justice!),

I  made my own hat and tie and dressed somewhat like the Mad Hatter

(I just have to have some Wonderland in my life when I can!)

Day 8 - A photo that makes you sad

Okay, so I'm travelling to the beat of my own drum right now, and this post is two weeks late (work has been stressy), but I'm taking this moment to share a photo that makes me sad.

Just looking at this photo from the movie City of Angels, makes me think of its tragic, sad ending which made me cry and cry and cry, you know the sobbing, snorting kind of crying? I still think it's a beautiful movie, but wish it didn't have to end that way. See it when you can, and have tissues handy.

30 Day Blog Journal Day 4,5,6 and 7!

I'm playing catch up again!

Day 4: MY FAVOURITE BOOKS
I've read so, so many beautiful books, but these ones had a huge affect on me:

The Chronicles of Narnia

The Narnia Chronicles were recommended to me by my teacher in Year 5 when I was looking for a good book to read. What a thrill! Genius narration, and my first experience of a fantasy world. (Who has looked into a wardrobe and hoped it lead to Narnia??) I also read the whole set to my best friend when I was fifteen, and we cried and cried during the final scenes of the Last Battle. Brilliant!

Robin Hobb's Books

My Mum picked up the first one of these Liveship Traders books by Robin Hobb at our local newsagency. What a lucky find! I was completely blown away by the writing, the characters, and especially the idea of a ship quickening into a live ship that talks to people! Serpents, dragons, ships, pirates, ballgowns, islands, and tree top living. Love, love, love this series and all of Robin Hobb's other books. Best fantasy book writer of ALL TIME!

The Time-Traveller's Wife

This year's favourite read has been this one. I was so totally drawn into the story and its characters. I love anything to do with time-travel, parallel worlds, fantasy worlds, and this was just beautiful and awful at he same time. Gorgeous love story, and the movie was the perfect visual match. I treasure them both!

DAY 5: FAVOURITE QUOTE

There are many, but I keep coming back to this one:

30 Day Blog Journal - Day 3

Oh, I'm running a day behind, but anyway, here are my
FAVOURITE TV SHOWS:
To give me ideas for food, and how to make people happy,

because she has such a powerful way of overhauling failing hairdressing salons,

because you can see the way people live, find out what works well and what does not,
and then apply the good things to your own life

because she has the perfect strategies for helping parents to control their children's behaviour,

because I love photography, makeup, and clothes!

I know, I'm a total reality show junkie, but hey, I enjoy seeing people have their fifteen minutes of fame!

30 Day Blog Journal - Day 2

Favourite Movies of All Time

I have so many favourite movies, but I will share the top five that inspire me, and that I watch again and again and again:

Chocolat

This film so inspires me to open a shop, be confident and creative, and make people happy! (Besides, have you noticed how hot Johnny Depp is? Swoon!)

Phantom of the Opera

I had heard people rave about the stage show of the Phantom for many years but never really taken notice. When I saw this film I was overcome with emotion at how beautiful the sets and the songs are, and at the heart-wrenching scenes near the end. The stage show with Anthony Warlow was brilliant too. His voice and presence are incredible!

The Wizard of Oz

This movie and characters are iconic, and the script has so many quotable quotes. Who hasn't said, " I'm melting, I'm melting," at some stage! Judy Garland IS Dorothy. The songs are unforgettable, and the magic, mesmerising.

Alice in Wonderland

This film scared me as a child, as I dreaded the thought of being lost in a strange land with no idea how to get home! The characters are so original and the script so quotable. The songs are divine! Highly inspiring, and my first inspiration for my etsy shop (coming back soon!)

The Dark Crystal

The first of it's kind. Masterful, fantastic, fascinating, enthralling. The story is brilliant.
The puppetry and sets: genius.

My Place and Yours - Green

For the last few weeks I've been too busy crafting to play this game at Hello Owl, so I thought I better get back into it! This week's theme is green, and I've chosen this little fellow to represent the green in my home.
One of my students from last year gave it to me as a Christmas gift, and I think it is just beautiful! (Also you get a glimpse of my new table runner and lantern. Loving!)

Head over to Hello Owl to see some more green ideas, and maybe play along! xx

30 Day Blog Journal Challenge - Day 1

I've been MIA lately, because I've been madly crafting away, with the intention of reopening my etsy shop again very soon. Not ready to show any sneak peaks yet...

So, to keep me in the loop, without having to think about taking photos and such, I'm going to play along with the 30 Day Challenge I found over at Life of an Artsy Mom. As it's the first day of August I thought I'd start today, and see if I can keep up with it all month!   Here's the Link if you want to play along, or see other people's journals:

So here goes: Day 1's challenge is to share your Favourite Song. I have shared favourite songs before and you will find them at the music link on my blog. But as for what I've been listening to lately, here are my two favourites:
Lily AllenThe Fear: LOVE her sweet voice, and the pretty things in this video, like the retro caravan, the wrapped up Georgian mansion, balloons, presents, dressing table, English garden, autumn leaves. The song has a sweet, catchy tune, and although she might swear a bit, I admire her honest lyrics. Her Fear CD is on high rotation in my car.

Another girl I just adore is Demi Lovato. She has a huge vocal range, and is only about 16! Love this song, Don't Forget, and constantly play her CDs.

Now it's your turn!
